Two Bangladeshi Fishermen Killed by Indian BSF in Feni Border Shooting

Two Bangladeshi fishermen were killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the Baspadua border area of Parshuram upazila, Feni, late Thursday night (July 24). One victim died in a Bangladeshi hospital, while the other’s body is currently held in an Indian hospital.

The incident occurred around midnight near the border pillar 2164/3-S. The deceased have been identified as Zakir Hossain Millat and Mohammad Liton (32). Another individual, Afsar, was injured and is receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Liton’s body was taken by the BSF and is currently at the morgue of Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital in India.

According to local sources, four individuals, including Millat, Liton, and Afsar, went to the Baspadua border area on Thursday night, allegedly to smuggle goods through an illegal route. The BSF opened fire on them, resulting in the deaths and injury. However, the victims’ families claim the group was fishing in the border area when the BSF targeted them.

Parvin Akter, Millat’s mother, told Kalbela, “My son went to the border area to catch fish. The BSF shot and killed him.”

Dr. Nayan Chandra Debnath from the emergency department of Feni 250-Bed General Hospital stated, “Two gunshot victims were brought to the hospital around 2:30 AM. One, named Millat, died earlier. Afsar, whose condition was critical, was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.”

Millat, son of Md. Yusuf Mia from Baspadua village in Parshuram municipality, died at Feni Sadar Hospital. Liton, son of Gachi Mia from the same village, was killed, and his body was taken by the BSF. Afsar, son of Peyar Ahammad from the same area, remains in critical condition.

Mohammad Nurul Hakim, Officer-in-Charge of Parshuram Model Police Station, confirmed, “On Thursday night, Millat and Afsar went to the border area when the BSF opened fire. The BSF also shot and killed Liton, taking his body to India. Millat died at Feni Sadar Hospital, and another individual is under treatment.”

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) Feni Battalion (4 BGB), said, “Bangladeshi youths crossed the border into India near pillar 2164/3-S in Baspadua village, and the BSF opened fire. Millat died after being taken to the hospital. The BSF took Liton’s body, and one critically injured person was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.”
