Police Arrest Two Bangladesh Chhatra League Members with Cocktails in Gulistan

Police arrested two members of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League with cocktails in Gulistan, the capital, on Tuesday night (July 22). The arrests were made around 9:30 PM by the Paltan Model Police Station team.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Paltan Zone, Hussain Muhammad Farabi, confirmed the arrests to the media on Wednesday morning.

The arrested individuals are Mehedi Hasan Fahim (30) and Arifur Rahman Raja (30). Fahim is the former vice-president of Dhaka South City Chhatra League and the son of Atikur Rahman from Patuadda, Chauddagram. He resided in the Fakir Chan Bari area of Mohammadbag, Kadamtali. Raja is a former executive member of Bakerganj Thana Chhatra League and the son of Md. Altab Molla from Rajapur village, Bakerganj, Barisal. He lived in Dari Angur Lane, Lalbagh.

AC Farabi stated that a team from Paltan Thana was conducting an operation to prevent robbery, execute warrants, and apprehend members of banned organizations. During the operation, the two Chhatra League members were caught red-handed with two unexploded cocktails while attempting to cause an explosion.
He further noted that the individuals were carrying explosives as part of a conspiracy. Similar incidents have occurred previously, and there is a suspicion that such activities have been taking place around the Secretariat following recent events.

According to police sources, the arrested individuals have initially confessed to being involved in cocktail-throwing incidents in Gulistan and other parts of Dhaka under the direction of senior Chhatra League leaders. A case has been filed against them under the Explosives Act at Paltan Model Police Station.
