Tribunal Orders Arrest and Interrogation of Three Accused in Lakshmipur Student Killings Case

 The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered the arrest and imprisonment of three individuals linked to the Awami League and the banned Chhatra League, accused of crimes against humanity in the killing of five people, including students, during the anti-discrimination student movement in Lakshmipur. The court also directed their interrogation.

On Monday (July 28), a three-member bench of Tribunal-2, led by Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, issued the order following a hearing on the prosecution’s application. The other members of the panel are retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Manjurul Basit and District and Sessions Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir. The tribunal set September 22, 2025, as the date for the next hearing.

The three accused are Humayun Kabir Patwary, president of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Awami League, Salah Uddin Jabed, chairman of Dighli Union Parishad in Sadar Upazila, and Shahin Alam, organizing secretary of the district Chhatra League.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim represented the prosecution during the hearing. Earlier, a case was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal, alleging crimes against humanity in connection with the Lakshmipur incident.
