HSC Examinee Dies of Snakebite in Magura

A 19-year-old HSC examinee, Shaown Shikdar, died from a snakebite in Magura on Sunday (July 27) night. The incident occurred in Srikanthpur village, Kuchiamora Union, under Magura Sadar Upazila.

Shaown, son of Badshah Shikdar from Srikanthpur village, was a student at Amuria Technical College and was appearing for this year’s HSC examinations. His cousin, Jahir Shikdar, said on Monday morning that Shaown was bitten by a snake around 7:00 PM on Sunday near their home. He was first taken to a local snake charmer (ojha). When his condition did not improve, he was taken to another snake charmer. However, Shaown’s health continued to deteriorate, and he was rushed to Magura 250-Bed Hospital around 11:30 PM, where doctors declared him dead.

The hospital’s Residential Medical Officer (RMO), Mamunur Rashid, told Prothom Alo, “Shaown was already deceased before arriving at the hospital. We heard he was taken to a snake charmer earlier. The hospital has an adequate supply of antivenom.”

Magura Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Ayub Ali, confirmed that the body was handed over to the family on Monday morning after completing legal formalities.
