Passenger Detained with Foreign Currency Worth 22 Lakh at Shah Amanat International Airport

 At Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, a passenger bound for the United Arab Emirates was detained with foreign currency valued at approximately 22 lakh taka. On Sunday (July 27) around 8:00 PM, a joint operation by airport security (AVSEC), Customs, DGFI, NSI, Air Force Taskforce, and CIID led to the apprehension of the passenger, identified as Md. Abdul Mazid.

Authorities recovered 4,700 US dollars, 47,885 UAE dirhams, 3,762 Saudi riyals, 346 Omani dinars, and 36,000 Bangladeshi taka in his possession. According to Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the Public Relations Officer of the airport, Md. Abdul Mazid, a resident of Lohagara traveling on Air Arabia flight G9-521 to Sharjah, was flagged as suspicious at the international anti-hijack cabin baggage scanning point. Although he initially denied carrying foreign currency, a body search revealed the currency.

The seized currency was confiscated under DM regulations. Following preliminary questioning, the passenger was handed over to Patenga Police Station. A case has been filed against him at Patenga Police Station for attempting to smuggle foreign currency by evading customs duties.
