In a shocking case in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj, a father and two relatives have been sentenced to death for killing the daughter to frame their rival. On Wednesday afternoon, Senior District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nurul Amin Bipul delivered the verdict in this nine-year-old case, as confirmed by the prosecutor, Mohammad Jalal Uddin.
The convicted individuals are Anwarul Islam Angur, son of Abdul Motalib from Bhatiya Jahirkona village in Karimganj’s Kiraton Union, his brother Khurshid Mia, and his nephew Sadek Mia.
The court pronounced the verdict in their absence, as the accused were not present in the dock during the ruling. Additionally, the judge imposed a fine of 50,000 taka on each of them.
According to the case details shared by Public Prosecutor Jalal Uddin, the motive behind the crime was a land dispute between Anwarul Islam Angur and several individuals, including Abubakar Siddique from the same area. To frame the rival, Angur, his brother, and nephew conspired to kill Angur’s daughter, Mira Akter Asma. On August 10, 2016, the three of them stabbed her to death and dumped her body in a jungle behind their house.
The following day, Angur filed a murder case at Karimganj police station, naming Abubakar and 16 others as the suspects. However, during the investigation, the police uncovered evidence that implicated Angur and several of his family members in the murder. As a result, a final report exonerating the initial suspects was submitted in court on September 3, 2017.
Subsequently, on the same day, Sub-Inspector Alok Kumar Dutta of Karimganj police filed a case against Angur, his brother Khurshid, his nephew Sadek, and Angur’s wife Nazmun Nahar. After a thorough investigation, the police submitted charges against the four accused in the court on February 7, 2018. The judge cleared Nazmun Nahar of all charges, finding no evidence against her.
Advocate Jesmin Ara Begum Rozy represented the defense in the case.
