A tourist, Toha Bin Amin (22), a resident of Shantibag under Demra Thana in Dhaka, was killed in Bandarban’s Alikadam Upazila due to an accidental discharge of a single-barrel hunting gun, police reported.
The incident occurred on Monday morning in Kurukpata Union, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Ramesh of Alikadam Police Station. He stated that a group of five tourists had gone to a remote area of Kurukpata Union on Saturday for sightseeing. On Monday morning, while handling a local single-barrel hunting gun, an accidental shot was fired, resulting in Toha’s death.
Several tourist guides, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the incident took place in the Menthak area, a two-hour walk from Dochari Bazar. While the group was playfully handling a single-barrel gun at a Mro community’s jhum house, an accidental discharge struck Toha Bin Al Amin, killing him on the spot.
The guides further noted that police recovered the body after being informed of the incident. SI Ramesh confirmed that the body is being held at Alikadam Police Station and will be sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsy on Tuesday.
