Teenage Girl’s Body Found in Pond a Day After Going Missing

Police in Madaripur recovered the body of a 15-year-old girl, Lamia Akter, from a pond a day after she went missing. The body was found floating in a pond owned by Abdul Haque Matubbar in Paikpara village, Rajair Upazila, around 11 AM on Thursday (July 17).

Lamia, daughter of Mizanur Rahman Molla from the same village, was a ninth-grade student at Noyakandi Alia Madrasa in a nearby area.

According to police, family, and local sources, Lamia received a phone call on Wednesday (July 16) afternoon, after which she left home without informing anyone. She did not return, and despite extensive searches, her family could not locate her. On Thursday morning, workers cutting jute in a field spotted her body floating in the pond and informed her family and the police. Rajair Police Station officers arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue at Madaripur Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Lamia’s mother, Reheba, and grandfather, Sanu Molla, said that Lamia frequently spoke to a boy over the phone. On Wednesday afternoon, after receiving a call, she left home without telling anyone. Despite searches, she could not be found. On Thursday morning, workers found her body floating near the pond’s edge with a scarf wrapped around her neck and alerted the family. Mohammad Masud Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajair Police Station, said the body was sent to Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is received.
