Principal Accused of Illegally Selling Government Textbooks in Narayanganj’s Rupganj

In a shocking incident, the principal of Bhulta School and College in Narayanganj's Rupganj, Suraiya Parvin, has been accused of illegally selling government textbooks. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the premises of the educational institution.

According to locals, a pickup truck entered the school compound on Tuesday afternoon. Principal Suraiya Parvin allegedly sold newly issued textbooks, meant for students from classes six to nine, by weight (per kilogram) and began loading them onto the vehicle.

Suspicious of the activity, locals caught the principal red-handed along with the pickup driver and a book buyer named Hedayet Ullah, and immediately informed the Upazila Secondary Education Officer, Siddiq Nure Alam. However, locals claim that the accused were later released by the education officer, triggering public outrage among students and residents.

This is not the first time the principal has faced controversy. Previously, she was accused of embezzling Tk 1 crore, withdrawing bills without completing work, and several other irregularities.

Education Officer Siddiq Nure Alam later arrived at the scene and, after confirming the incident, ordered the books to be returned to the school storeroom. He stated, “We confiscated textbooks worth nearly one lakh taka, both new and old. A show-cause notice has been issued to Principal Suraiya Parvin, and the matter has been reported to higher authorities.” In response, Principal Suraiya Parvin denied the allegations, calling them “completely false and fabricated,” and claimed that she was the target of an ongoing conspiracy.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiful Islam confirmed that he had instructed the education officer to investigate the incident thoroughly. “A report will be submitted to the Ministry of Education within three days through a special committee. If anyone from the education department is found involved, they too will be brought under the purview of the law,” he added.

The incident has sparked widespread anger and disappointment among the local community, raising serious questions about accountability and transparency in the management of educational resources.
