In a shocking incident in Dhaka’s Yatrabari, unidentified assailants broke into a house by cutting the grill, killed an elderly man, and left his wife critically injured while looting cash and gold ornaments, police said. The deceased has been identified as Ismail Khan (80). His wife, Saleha Begum (75), is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
According to police and family sources, the incident occurred around 4:00 AM on Tuesday. It is suspected that Ismail Khan was beaten and strangled to death, while Saleha Begum was stabbed. Around 6:00 AM, relatives rushed the couple to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Ismail Khan dead. Saleha Begum remains under medical care.
Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Aolad Hossain told Prothom Alo that the couple lived on the second floor of a four-story building in the Bibirbagicha area. Early in the morning, unknown individuals cut the grill to enter the house, killed one person, and critically injured another. Details of the incident are still under investigation.
