Four Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder Over Land Dispute in Pirojpuj
In a case involving the murder of a young man named Badsha Sheikh due to a land dispute in Nazirpur, Pirojpur, a court has sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment.On Wednesday (July 16), Judge Md. Mujibur Rahman of the Pirojpur Additional District and Sessions Court delivered the verdict in the presence of the accused. The convicts were also fined Tk 10,000 each, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in case of non-payment. Two female accused were acquitted as their involvement could not be proven. Public Prosecutor (PP) Abul Kalam Akon confirmed the matter. The convicted individuals are Hatim Ali Sheikh (66), his two sons Majedul Islam Dalim (41) and Selim Sheikh (46), and Md. Jahangir Sheikh (51), all from Madhya Hoglabunia village in Nazirpur Upazila, Pirojpur. However, Hatim Ali Sheikh passed away during the trial. The acquitted individuals are Sefali Begum (56), wife of Hatim Ali Sheikh, and Hasi Begum (38), wife of Jahangir Sheikh. According to the case details, on December 7, 2017, Badsha Sheikh was attacked by 14-15 individuals from the opposing party over a land dispute while he was on his way to dry paddy. The attackers severely beat him, causing critical injuries. With the help of Nazirpur Thana police, his relatives admitted him to the Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, December 8. On the same day, Badsha’s wife, Akalima Begum, filed a murder case at Nazirpur Thana, naming 13 individuals and 3-4 others as unidentified accused. The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Saidur Rahman of Nazirpur Thana, submitted a charge sheet against six individuals on March 21, 2018. The court delivered the verdict after recording the testimonies of 22 witnesses. Public Prosecutor Abul Kalam Akon stated, “The court sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of a young man over a land dispute. One of the convicts, Hatim Ali Sheikh, passed away during the trial.
