Father and Son Killed in Narail’s Lohagara Over Land Dispute

In Narail’s Lohagara, a father and son, Jahangir Sheikh (55) and Nahid Sheikh (20), were killed in an attack by rivals stemming from a land dispute. One person from the opposing group was also injured in the incident.

The attack occurred around 11:00 AM on Wednesday (July 16) in Bahirpara village of Lohagara Upazila. According to police and local sources, a longstanding dispute over land existed between Jahangir Sheikh and Kausar Sheikh, alias Mandar Sheikh, both residents of Bahirpara village. On Wednesday morning, Jahangir went to the field to cut jute, leading to a heated argument with Mandar Sheikh and his sons. During the altercation, Mandar Sheikh and his sons attacked Jahangir, fatally injuring him with sharp weapons, and he died at the scene. Jahangir’s son, Nahid, was also severely injured in the attack. Locals rushed both victims to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors referred Nahid to Narail Sadar Hospital. He was later sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way in the afternoon. One of the attackers, identified as Kader, was admitted to the hospital with injuries. Lohagara Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sharifull Islam confirmed that the clash arose due to a land dispute between the two parties. “One group went to work on the disputed land, and the other attacked them, resulting in injuries on both sides. Jahangir, a farmer, was killed at the scene, and his body has been sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy. His son, Nahid, passed away en route to Dhaka,” he said. Additional police have been deployed to maintain peace in the area, and the situation is currently under control, according to the OC.
