A court in Rajshahi has sentenced three individuals to death for the murder of a college student during a conflict over firecrackers in Charghat. The convicts are Akik Ali, his father Kalam Ali, and his elder brother Arif Ali from Dalipara village in Charghat Upazila.
On Monday (July 21) afternoon, Judge Mohd. Mahiduzzaman of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the verdict. Munshi Abuul Kalam Azad, a government lawyer at the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal, confirmed the details.
He stated that in July 2021, on the eve of Eid, Akik Islam and his friends went to the local Kangkarchar market to buy firecrackers. On their way back, they encountered Akik Ali. Akik Islam and his friends snatched three firecrackers from Akik Ali and fled. Later that night, around 10 PM, Akik Islam and his friends went to Akik Ali's house in Chandanpur village to recover the firecrackers. An altercation broke out between them, which escalated into a fight with Akik Ali and his family. During the clash, Akik Islam was fatally injured and died on the way to the hospital. Akik's father filed a murder case against the group.
The judge delivered the death sentence in this case today.
