He alleged that Sheikh Hasina had previously received support from Jamaat-e-Islami, only to execute their leaders, and similarly marginalized the Jatiya Party. He also claimed that the army was targeted after the 1/11 incident. Faruk warned that those currently aiding the Awami League in recent killings to sabotage elections would face resistance.
Highlighting BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s 16-year struggle to restore democracy, Faruk credited the July-August movement as a result of that effort. “We don’t want to take to the streets again. We want to serve people in villages and towns, recover the looted wealth of the past 16 years, and bring peace to every household,” he said.
Faruk condemned recent attacks, including an attempt to kill an imam in Barguna and incidents in Chandpur, stating that while BNP has shown restraint, there is a limit to their patience. “Our leader has said that forming a government requires patience, fair elections, and serving the people,” he added.
He further alleged a fresh conspiracy against Tarique Rahman, asserting that such plots would fail as Rahman is a globally recognized political figure and a national leader.
BNP Leader Faruk Vows to Thwart Conspiracy to Disrupt Elections
Zaynul Abedin Faruk, advisor to the BNP Chairperson and former opposition chief whip, has accused the Awami League of conspiring with others to orchestrate killings and disrupt elections. He vowed that such conspiracies would be thwarted. Speaking at a discussion organized by the Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal at the National Press Club’s Abdus Salam Hall on Monday, Faruk made these remarks.
