In a press conference held in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, three senior leaders of the Jatiya Party (JaPa)—Senior Co-Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Co-Chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Howladar, and General Secretary Md. Mujibul Haque Chunnu—rejected the expulsion decision issued by JaPa Chairman GM Quader, calling it completely illegal and authoritarian. They declared that they do not accept Quader’s decision and will participate in the party’s upcoming council.
Anisul alleged that GM Quader forcibly took the role of Co-Chairman by exploiting the illness of JaPa’s founder, HM Ershad. He stated, “Every decision by GM Quader reflects an authoritarian mindset.
Mujibul Haque Chunnu highlighted his long association with JaPa, noting that he was a Member of Parliament when GM Quader was merely a manager at a private company. He revealed that Quader promoted 28 party members without informing him as General Secretary. Chunnu asserted, “We will not leave Jatiya Party, nor will we let it break. We will attend the council, and if our voices are not heard, there will be no further discussion.”
Ruhul Amin Howladar, who served as JaPa’s General Secretary for 17 years, claimed that a powerful group’s conspiracy led to their expulsion. He accused Quader of damaging the party, stating, “What he is doing is not something a sane politician would do.”[
The press conference was also attended by other JaPa leaders, including Kazi Firoz Rashid, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Saidur Rahman Tepa, Shafiqul Islam Sentu, Mostafa Al Mahmud, Nazma Akter, Jasimuddin Bhuiyan, Arifur Rahman Khan, Jahirul Islam Jahir, and Solaiman Alam Sheth, among others.
