Alleged Illicit Relationship: Man and Woman Tied to Tree Overnight by Locals in Manikganj

In Daulatpur Upazila of Manikganj, locals detained and tied a man named Md. Sirajul Islam Munzel (45) to a tree overnight on allegations of an illicit relationship with the wife of an expatriate. The incident has caused a stir in the area, with several photos of the event circulating on Facebook.

The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on Friday (July 11) in the Char Deshgram area of Daulatpur Upazila. Locals had been suspicious for some time due to frequent visits by a man to the house of a woman whose husband is an expatriate working in Saudi Arabia. On Friday night, when Munzel entered the woman’s house, locals caught him red-handed and kept him tied to a tree until early morning.

The detained individual, Md. Sirajul Islam Munzel (45), is the office secretary of the Dhamsher Union BNP and the son of the late Shirjan Ali from the Gala area of Dhamsher Union. Lutfur Rahman Pintu, General Secretary of Dhamsher Union BNP, confirmed the incident, stating that locals detained the pair around 2:00 AM and tied them to a tree. He said both individuals admitted to the illicit relationship. The woman’s expatriate husband has reportedly decided not to continue their marriage. However, the accused pair have expressed willingness to marry each other. Efforts are underway to resolve the matter socially, and Pintu added that organizational action will be taken against Munzel by the party.

Daulatpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), ARM Al-Mamun, said police were sent to the scene after learning of the incident. However, no formal complaints have been filed. He noted that he heard preparations are being made for the marriage of the accused pair.
