15 Injured in BNP Factional Clash in Sujanagar, Pabna; 10 Leaders Expelled

At least 15 people were injured in a violent clash and gunfire between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Sujanagar, Pabna, sparked by a dispute over a mobile phone conversation. The incident, which occurred on July 9, 2025, left Sujanagar Upazila BNP member secretary Sheikh Abdur Rouf critically injured. On Thursday night, July 10, 2025, the BNP expelled 10 leaders, including Rouf, for their involvement in the violence.

The expulsions were announced in a press release signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Sujanagar Upazila BNP convener Taufiq Hasan confirmed the expulsions to Kalbela on Friday, July 11, 2025. The expelled leaders are Sheikh Abdur Rouf (52), Chhatra Dal leader Sheikh Kausar (28), Jubo Dal leader Manjed Sheikh (45), Sujanagar Poura BNP joint general secretary Mojibur Khan (60), former Sujanagar Upazila BNP member Kamal Sheikh (46), Poura Jubo Dal member Manik Khan (38), Sujanagar NA College branch president Shakil Khan (25), Sujanagar Poura Ward No. 6 senior vice-president Ruhul Khan (40), BNP activist Lebu Khan (60), and Jubo Dal activist Halim Sheikh (40).

The press release stated that these leaders were expelled from all party positions, including primary membership, due to their involvement in the violent clash. It also clarified that others involved, such as Molayem Khan and Suruj, are not affiliated with the BNP or its associate organizations, and any party members maintaining contact with these individuals will face strict disciplinary action. Taufiq Hasan expressed regret over the expulsion of Sheikh Abdur Rouf, who is critically injured. Sujanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Majibur Rahman told Kalbela that no case has been filed yet, as no complaints have been received. He added that police will take action if a complaint is lodged.
The conflict began on Tuesday, July 8, when followers of former Sujanagar Upazila BNP joint secretary Mojibur Khan, led by Ashik, had their phone snatched and broken by Chhatra Dal leader Kausar, a nephew of Abdur Rouf, and his followers. Though the issue was initially resolved, tensions flared again on Wednesday when Kausar summoned Ashik to the Nandita Cinema Hall area. Ashik arrived with his cousin, Chhatra Dal leader Sabuj, leading to a heated argument that escalated into a physical altercation. When Sabuj intervened, he was beaten and stabbed. Subsequently, Mojibur Khan, Lebu Khan, Manik, Suruj, and others attacked Kausar’s group. Abdur Rouf, attempting to mediate, was also attacked and stabbed, sustaining critical injuries. Gunfire was reported during the clash, and Rouf was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition
