A young man named Sharif Mia (27) was killed, and two others were injured in a stabbing incident by an adversary in Hossainpur Upazila of Kishoreganj. The incident occurred on Monday (September 8) evening in Uttor Gobindpur village of Gobindpur Union.
The deceased, Sharif Mia, was the son of the late Alim Uddin from Uttor Gobindpur village. The injured are Sharif’s elder brother Masud Mia (40), vice-president of Gobindpur Union BNP, and Sharif’s nephew Ujjwal Mia (35), son of Abdus Salam.
Hossainpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Maruf Hossain confirmed the incident. According to local sources and police, Masud Mia has been involved in a business sending workers abroad and operates an establishment in the area. Majibur Rahman had paid Masud 60,000 taka to send his brother-in-law abroad. Due to delays, Majibur visited Masud’s shop on Monday evening but, not finding him, got into an altercation with Sharif Mia, who was sitting outside. During the argument, Majibur stabbed Sharif in the stomach, leading to his death on the spot.
Upon receiving the news, Masud rushed to the scene and confronted Majibur, who then stabbed Masud as well. Seeing this, Ujjwal Mia intervened and was also stabbed before Majibur fled. Locals rescued the injured and took them to a hospital, but due to their critical condition, Masud and Ujjwal were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
OC Maruf Hossain stated that there was a prior dispute between Majibur and Masud, which led to the murder. Sharif’s body was recovered from the scene, and the two injured individuals were sent to Mymensingh for advanced treatment. No arrests have been made yet, and legal proceedings are underway.
