Woman Killed in Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan Over Suspected Affair, Husband Detained

In a tragic incident in Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan, Akalima Begum (33) was stabbed to death by her husband, Masud Alam (43), who suspected her of having an extramarital affair. The incident occurred on Monday (September 1) night, and Masud was apprehended by locals and handed over to the police.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain of Dakshinkhan Police Station confirmed the incident, stating, “During the altercation, Masud Alam injured his hand while stabbing his wife. Locals detained him and handed him over to us. He is currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).”

According to SI Anwar, Masud and Akalima married eight years ago after falling in love, and this was the second marriage for both. Akalima had a child from her first marriage. After years of living together, Masud moved to Dubai for work, while Akalima ran a clothing shop. Masud later learned that his wife was allegedly involved in a relationship with another man and suspected she was planning to remarry secretly, leading to frequent disputes between them.

Six months ago, Masud returned from Dubai, and the couple began living separately. Recently, Masud started communicating with Akalima again. On Monday, he went to her rented apartment in the Dewan Bari Pakar Matha area of Dakshinkhan and began assaulting her. Akalima, who lived on the fourth floor, tried to escape to the landlord’s flat on the third floor. There, Masud stabbed her repeatedly, severely injuring her.

Hearing her screams, neighbors intervened, detained Masud, and informed the police. The police took him into custody. Akalima was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared her dead at 11:55 PM.

The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy. A case is being processed in connection with the incident, according to SI Anwar Hossain.
