According to police and local sources, Sumon Hossain, son of Asaduzzaman from the same village, visited the shop of Amanuzzaman (45) to buy cigarettes on credit. Amanuzzaman refused to provide the cigarettes and asked Sumon to settle his previous dues, leading to a heated argument. During the altercation, Sumon allegedly attempted to attack Amanuzzaman with a machete but failed. He then suddenly bit and tore off the shopkeeper’s right ear. Locals rushed the severely injured Amanuzzaman to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for treatment. Amanuzzaman is the son of the late Ramzan Mondal from Pochamadia village.
On Tuesday (August 12) afternoon, Amanuzzaman’s elder brother, Nazmul Islam, filed a written complaint at the Daulatpur Police Station. In the complaint, he stated, “On Monday morning, Sumon came to my younger brother’s shop and demanded cigarettes on credit. When my brother refused, Sumon became furious and bit off his right ear. We later rescued him and admitted him to the hospital.”
Daulatpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Solaiman Sheikh confirmed, “We have received the complaint. The police are investigating the matter, and necessary legal action will be taken based on the findings.”
