Mystery of Redwan’s Murder in Faridpur’s Bhanga Unveiled: Killed by Friend Over iPhone Theft Grudge

The mystery surrounding the murder of Redwan (25) in Chardaliya village, Tujarpur Union, Bhanga Upazila, Faridpur, has been solved. Investigations by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police revealed that Redwan was killed by his close friend Jahurul Munshi (26) due to a grudge over a stolen iPhone.

Redwan, son of Abu Bakkar Sohel Miah, a Saudi expatriate from Baishrashi village in Sadarpur Upazila, was murdered by Jahurul, son of van driver Lokman Munshi from Chardaliya village, Tujarpur Union, Bhanga Upazila.

According to RAB and police sources, Redwan and Jahurul were close friends who studied together at an Alia Madrasa in Shibchar up to the Dakhil level. Redwan owned an iPhone, which was stolen during their madrasa days. After Redwan filed a general diary at the police station, the phone was recovered from Jahurul, creating resentment in him.

After completing their madrasa education, Jahurul enrolled in a private college in Dhaka, while Redwan completed a diploma from Faridpur Polytechnic College. On August 13, Jahurul called Redwan to visit his home in Chardaliya. Redwan arrived at Jahurul’s house in the evening. During a conversation, Jahurul stabbed Redwan in the throat, causing him to collapse. To ensure his death, Jahurul stabbed him multiple times in the body. He then tied a sack of sand to Redwan’s body and dumped it in a nearby ditch.

When Redwan did not return home, his mother filed a missing person’s diary at Sadarpur Police Station on August 14. Four days later, on August 17, Redwan’s decomposed body surfaced in the Chardaliya marsh. The police recovered the body, and his family identified it.

A RAB-10 team, using technological assistance, arrested Jahurul from his home. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder. The motorcycle, wallet, clothes, and knife used in the crime were seized.

RAB-10 Commander Officer Tarikul Islam told Kalbela, “Redwan and Jahurul were close friends. The murder took place in Jahurul’s home. The grudge over the mobile phone theft incident was the primary motive behind the killing.”

Bhanga Police Station’s investigating officer (Sub-Inspector) Ramprasad stated, “Last night at midnight, Redwan’s mother, Rabeya Begum, filed a murder case against an unknown accused. We have not yet officially identified the suspect, but we have heard RAB has detained someone.”
