March for Rohingya Called on International Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day

Tomorrow, Monday (25 August 2025), the Bangladesh Peoples Coalition for Rohingya Rights, a human rights organization, has called for a “March for Rohingya” or Rohingya Solidarity Day to mark the “International Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day.” The march will commence at 3 PM from Shahbagh to Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. The organization has urged people in Bangladesh and worldwide to observe this day in support of the oppressed Rohingya community.

In a statement, Jihadi Ihsan, an organizer of the Bangladesh Peoples Coalition for Rohingya Rights, said, “Rohingyas are being killed behind the veil of international media coverage. On 25 August 2024, a drone attack was carried out on the Rohingya community and refugee camps along the Naf River in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, resulting in nearly 200 deaths, according to reports. We have called for the March for Rohingya to raise voices globally in support of the oppressed Rohingya people.”

The organization’s spokesperson, Md. Shahriar Fahad, stated, “On the morning of 25 August 2017, the Myanmar military, border guards, and extremist Buddhist militias launched a planned genocide against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State. According to a United Nations report, thousands of Rohingya women, men, and children were killed, women were raped, villages were burned, and widespread human rights violations, including food and water blockades, were committed. On that day, over 700,000 Rohingyas were forced to flee to Bangladesh to save their lives.” He added, “Since the military regime of General Ne Win, the Rohingya have been systematically labeled as ‘foreigners.’ In 1978, through ‘Operation Nagamin (Dragon King),’ around 200,000 Rohingyas were pushed into Bangladesh. Later, martyred President Ziaur Rahman facilitated their return to Arakan through diplomatic efforts. In 1982, the Rohingyas were stripped of their citizenship. They are facing genocide in their homeland and being expelled, yet the world remains silent. We want all freedom-loving people worldwide to speak out for the Rohingya’s freedom.”

The organization has called on people across Bangladesh, the global community, and all student organizations to join the March for Rohingya and raise their voices for the freedom and liberation of the Rohingya people. The Bangladesh Peoples Coalition for Rohingya Rights is primarily a human rights organization formed by Bangladeshi students to advocate against the atrocities faced by the Rohingya. Other members of the organization include Kazi Ahmed Al Basir, Rubayet Rafi, Nihal Muhammad Tashfin, Asif, and others.
