Senior journalist and former press secretary to the BNP chairperson, Maruf Kamal Khan, has identified a man in a red shirt as the assailant who brutally attacked Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad. In a Facebook post made around 3:00 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Khan called for identifying the attacker to uncover critical details about the incident.
In his post, Khan wrote, “Photos and videos clearly show a man in a dark red shirt brutally attacking Nurul Haque Nur. Who is this reckless assailant? If we can identify him, we can uncover a lot. It will reveal who is deliberately trying to destabilize and disrupt the situation, and what their motives are.”
Khan strongly condemned the attack on Nurul Haque Nur and prayed for his swift recovery.
The incident occurred after 9:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2025, when clashes broke out between Gono Odhikar Parishad activists and law enforcement agencies in Bijoynagar. During the confrontation, Parishad activists reportedly threw bricks and stones at the law enforcement personnel. As the situation escalated, law enforcement chased the activists, who then gathered in front of Al Raji Tower. At the same time, Nurul Haque Nur and other top leaders of the party were preparing for a press conference there. Law enforcement subsequently conducted a baton charge, resulting in Nurul Haque Nur sustaining severe injuries. He was admitted to the ICU at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Earlier that evening, a clash between activists of Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad in Bijoynagar left several people, including journalists, injured.
