Hospital Staff Shot by Masked Assailants at Mohakhali Chest Disease Hospital

A fourth-class employee of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) in Mohakhali, Dhaka, was shot by unidentified assailants on Friday night. The victim has been identified as Mohammad Jamal Hossain (40).

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM near the hospital premises. Jamal was critically injured after being shot in the head and was immediately rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The incident was confirmed by Inspector Faruk Hossain, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp. “Jamal Hossain is receiving treatment at the emergency ward, and his condition is critical. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station,” he said.

Jamal’s brother, Md. Sajal, stated that Jamal was the former general secretary of the fourth-class employees’ association at the hospital. “Around 8 PM, he went to the office club of the association. At that time, two masked men approached him and shot him in the head before fleeing the scene,” Sajal said.

He also mentioned that Jamal resides at the hospital’s staff quarters in Mohakhali.

Police have begun an investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers.
