According to local sources, Purnima Das, daughter of Palash Moni Das from Ram Ravan East Para, recently married Montu Moni Das, son of Maru Das from Suapur in the same upazila. The couple was invited to attend a puja ceremony organized by the village panchayat committee. During the celebrations, Montu Das consumed excessive alcohol, leading to his death. His brother-in-law, Pinu Das, also fell seriously ill due to heavy drinking and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Drishesh Matabbar, a resident of Ram Ravan village, said, “These were young individuals caught up in the festivities. The excessive consumption of alcohol during the puja ceremony led to the tragic death of the groom and the critical condition of his brother-in-law. This is a deeply saddening and heartbreaking incident.”
Mohammad Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhamrai Police Station, stated, “No complaints have been lodged with us regarding this incident so far. If a complaint is received, we will investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate legal action.”
