An elderly woman named Rowshan Ara (60) was beaten to death late Thursday night in the Kalunagar area of Hazaribagh, Dhaka. Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the incident.
According to Hazaribagh police, Rowshan Ara lived with her husband Amzad Hossain and their children in a house near the embankment in 5 No. Kalunagar.
Around 2 AM on Thursday night, three to four attackers entered their home and began assaulting Rowshan Ara's son. When she tried to intervene and protect her son, the attackers beat her with sticks, striking her head and causing severe bleeding. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4 AM on Friday, where doctors declared her dead.
Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saiful Islam stated that Rowshan Ara and her family had been living in a house built on rented land in Kalunagar. There had been a long-standing dispute with neighboring residents over the property.
Both parties had visited Hazaribagh Police Station earlier on Thursday night in an attempt to resolve the conflict. Following the meeting, several individuals from the opposing party allegedly went to Rowshan Ara’s house and carried out the fatal attack.
OC Saiful Islam confirmed that five suspects have been detained so far in connection with the murder. Legal proceedings are underway.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with many demanding justice for the brutal killing of the elderly woman.
