Following widespread discussion and criticism over the stone looting and plundering at Sada Pathar in Bholaganj, Sylhet, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, Uzair Al Mahmud Adnan, has been transferred. Inspector Ratan Sheikh has been appointed as the new OC of the station. Sylhet’s Superintendent of Police, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, confirmed the transfer.
Earlier, 22 police personnel in Sylhet were transferred, including 11 Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) from Companiganj and Gowainghat police stations, which came under scrutiny due to the stone looting incidents.
On August 13, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid at Sada Pathar in Companiganj. According to district police sources, three SIs and one ASI from Companiganj Police Station, along with four SIs and three ASIs from Gowainghat Police Station, were transferred to other stations. The remaining transferred personnel were serving in Balaganj, Fenchuganj, Golapganj, Bianibazar police stations, the Kusiyara Police Investigation Center in Golapganj, and the Motor Vehicle Branch in Sylhet.
Of the 22 transferred personnel, 13 are SIs, seven are ASIs, and two are constables. In addition to transferring 11 personnel from Companiganj and Gowainghat, nine others were reassigned to these two stations, with three assigned to Companiganj and six to Gowainghat.
A police source stated that the transfer of the 22 personnel was part of routine reassignments. However, due to recent public criticism over stone looting incidents at Sada Pathar in Companiganj and Jaflong in Gowainghat, 11 personnel from these two stations were included in the routine transfer.
Additionally, the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Companiganj was also transferred.
