In a shocking incident in Faridpur’s Madhukhali Upazila, a fourth-grade student, Tamim Talukdar (11), was kidnapped for ransom and brutally murdered. Police have arrested two suspects, Tuhin Sheikh (25) and Amirul (25), in connection with the crime. Tuhin, who had worked for years as a domestic worker in the household of Tamim’s father, Shamim Talukdar, a Saudi expatriate, led the kidnapping. The incident has left the local community in a state of shock and grief.
According to local residents, police, and Tamim’s family, Tamim, a student of Bara Gopaladi Government Primary School in Raipur Union, went missing on August 15 while playing in a nearby field. When he did not return home by evening, his mother searched for him but found no trace. That night, the kidnappers contacted Tamim’s mother, demanding a ransom of Tk 15 lakh and threatening to kill him if the money was not paid. After several phone conversations with the kidnappers, Tamim’s family filed a complaint with Madhukhali Police Station.
Using information technology, police detained Tuhin Sheikh. Based on his confession, Tamim’s body, covered with debris, was recovered from a ditch in Banshapur, Korkadi Union, on Monday night, August 18. Police confirmed that Tamim was strangled to death with the t-shirt he was wearing. Amirul, another suspect involved in the murder, was also arrested. Tuhin hails from Mohammadpur Thana in Magura district, while Amirul is from Magura Sadar Thana.
Madhukhali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Nuruzzaman stated that the kidnapping and murder were premeditated, aimed at extorting ransom. “With the help of technology, we detained Tuhin, and based on his confession, we recovered the body,” he said. “The investigation will ensure all those involved are brought to justice, and we will interrogate the suspects to determine if this group is linked to other incidents.” The police have applied for a seven-day remand for the two suspects, who were sent to court on Tuesday, August 19.
Tamim’s family revealed that the kidnappers demanded Tk 15 lakh as ransom. The family was willing to pay, but Tamim could not be saved. The local community has demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for this heinous crime. It is learned that Tamim’s father, Shamim Talukdar, left Saudi Arabia for Bangladesh on Tuesday. Tamim’s body will be buried after his father’s arrival.
