BGB Recovers Arms and Ammunition in Raid on Khad Island, Naf River, Teknaf

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a special operation on Tuesday night, recovering four firearms and a large cache of ammunition from Khad Island in the Naf River, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Despite the operation, no suspects were apprehended, as the perpetrators fled into Myanmar.

The operation was confirmed by Lt. Col. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of Ukhia 64 BGB, in a press briefing. The recovered items include two G-3 rifles, one MA-1 (Variant MK2), one LM-16, eight magazines, and 507 rounds of ammunition (199 rounds for G-3, 120 rounds for MA-1, and 188 rounds for LM-16).

According to Lt. Col. Jasim, the operation took place in the Naf River area under Hnila Border Outpost’s jurisdiction. BGB personnel noticed suspicious individuals on Khad Island, but upon spotting the forces, the suspected smugglers or terrorists fired several rounds and escaped into Myanmar by boat. A thorough search of the area later uncovered the hidden weapons and ammunition.

Lt. Col. Jasim stated that the BGB is committed to preventing smuggling, drugs, or illegal arms from crossing the border. The recovered weapons are believed to have been smuggled into Bangladesh by terrorist groups or smugglers, possibly for subversive activities, drug trafficking, or sabotage. Intelligence operations are ongoing to identify the source and individuals involved.

Mohammad Ali, acting chairman of Hnila Union Parishad, expressed concerns about terrorist groups potentially smuggling arms through border points ahead of elections. He urged the BGB to continue such operations and thanked them for their efforts. Local residents also praised the BGB, pledging cooperation for future operations to curb illegal activities.

The operation underscores the BGB’s vigilance in securing the border and preventing illicit activities in the region.
