Youth Impersonating Police SI Arrested in Thakurgaon for Job Fraud Involving Tk 12 Lakh
Thakurgaon, July 13, 2025: A young man has been accused of defrauding a job seeker of Tk 12 lakh by posing as a police sub-inspector (SI) and promising a job in the Bangladesh Army. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the alleged fraudster from Thakurgaon.The accused, identified as Rajiur Rahman (40), is a resident of Jangao village in Pirganj upazila, Thakurgaon. RAB-5 confirmed the arrest in a press release issued on Sunday morning. According to the press release, the victim had applied for a job in the Bangladesh Army. Rajiur, falsely claiming to be a police SI, promised to secure the job for the victim in exchange for Tk 12 lakh. The agreement stipulated that Tk 6 lakh would be paid initially, with the remaining amount to be paid after receiving the appointment card. Following Rajiur’s advice, the victim sent his SSC certificate, two blank cheques, and six non-judicial stamps. On June 3, the victim participated in the preliminary selection process for a soldier position at Rajshahi Cantonment but was eliminated during the initial screening. When the victim attempted to contact Rajiur, he was unreachable. Realizing he had been deceived, the victim filed a case at Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi. RAB stated that following the case, RAB-5 and RAB-13 conducted a shadow investigation. On Saturday evening at 7:30 PM, a joint team from RAB-5’s CPSC and RAB-13’s CPC-1 arrested Rajiur from Bandarpara in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. During preliminary interrogation, Rajiur confessed to the fraud. RAB also revealed that he has multiple cases against him and has been imprisoned several times in the past. After his arrest, he was handed over to Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi.
