Police in Bauphal, Patuakhali, have arrested Harun Mridha (46), a Union Parishad (UP) member and Jubo League leader, in possession of yaba tablets. Harun is a UP member of Ward No. 1 of Nawmala Union Parishad, as well as the co-president of the union’s Jubo League and president of the ward’s Jubo League.
The arrest was made around 11:30 PM on Thursday in the Solabunia Bazar area of Nawmala Union, following a tip-off. During the operation, police recovered 25 yaba tablets from his possession.
Harun Mridha, a resident of the ‘Nij Botkajal’ area in Nawmala and son of the late Hafez Ali Mridha, has reportedly been involved in the drug trade for a long time, according to local allegations. He was known as the ‘Khalifa’ (lieutenant) in the criminal underworld led by Kamal Hossain Biswas, the organizational secretary of Bauphal Upazila Awami League and former chairman of Nawmala Union.
