In a horrific incident in Bogura, two women were stabbed to death inside their home, and a teenage girl was critically injured. The attack took place around 8:15 PM on Wednesday (April 16) in the Islampur Harigari area of Ward No. 14, Bogura Municipality.
The victims were identified as Laili Bewa (83), wife of the late Abdul Kuddus Bulu, and Habiba Yasmin (21), wife of Parvez Islam. The two were related as grandmother-in-law and granddaughter-in-law. Additionally, a teenage girl named Bonna was seriously injured in the attack.
According to the victims’ relatives, Bonna, a schoolgirl, was at the house with her sister-in-law Habiba and grandmother Laili when the attack occurred. Hearing screams, family members rushed to the scene and found Bonna, Laili, and Habiba lying in a pool of blood. They were immediately taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where doctors pronounced Laili and Habiba dead. Bonna, critically injured, was admitted to the surgery department and remains under treatment.
Bonna’s uncle, Abdus Salam, stated that Bonna was in a romantic relationship with a boy who had proposed marriage. However, the family did not approve of the marriage. He suggested that this dispute might be linked to the attack.
SI Gaziul Haque from Chilimpir Medical Outpost reported that Bonna was talking to a boy named Saikat at home when a conflict arose, leading to her being stabbed. When Habiba and Laili intervened to save her, they were also stabbed and died at the scene. Bonna sustained stab wounds in three places on her body, and her condition remains critical.
Additional Police Superintendent of Bogura Sadar Circle, Mustafa Manzur, told reporters that a police operation to apprehend the suspects has begun. However, the motive behind the killings is yet to be determined.
