Those Engaging in Extortion Politics Will Face the Same Fate as Hasina: Nahid Islam

Jhalakathi: Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), warned that those who engage in politics of extortion, occupation, and commissions will face the same fate as Hasina, who was ousted by the people of Bangladesh.

Speaking at a public rally organized by the NCP in Kapuria Pattit, Jhalakathi town, on Sunday afternoon, Nahid Islam said, “The people will not accept elections without justice and reforms. Those who plan elections without ensuring justice and reforms are the ones conspiring to delay the electoral process.” He highlighted a recent incident in Dhaka where a person was killed with stones over extortion. “The people of Bangladesh, who drove Hasina out, will similarly bid farewell to those who engage in extortion, looting, and commission-based politics,” he stated. Nahid Islam further remarked, “The autocratic government clung to power for 16 years through force. There was no form of oppression they did not inflict on the people. Some believe that merely holding elections will bring about all reforms. Hasina thought the same. While Hasina has fled Bangladesh, her system remains intact.” He emphasized that the NCP is working to establish democracy, justice, and dignified politics for the youth in the country. NCP’s central member secretary Akhtar Hossain demanded the swift holding of student union elections in the country’s universities. Earlier, NCP leaders and activists participated in a street march in the town. The arrival of central leaders created a festive atmosphere among party workers, with a significant turnout at the rally. Among others present at the event were NCP’s senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin and senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara. Prior to the rally, NCP leaders arrived in Jhalakathi around 4 PM and visited the Nesarabad Darbar Sharif, where they paid respects at the grave of Hazrat Kayed Saheb Huzur. They later held a meeting with Maulana Khalilur Rahman, the son of Kayed Saheb.
