In Netrokona’s Mohanganj, Mubarak Hossain Sagar (20) has been sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor for strangling his mother to death. The verdict was announced by District and Sessions Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman on Tuesday (July 22, 2025) afternoon. Additionally, Sagar was fined 50,000 taka, with an additional year of imprisonment without labor if the fine is unpaid.

The convicted, Mubarak Hossain Sagar, hails from Nagdara village in Mohanganj Upazila. His father’s name is Abdus Sattar. Sagar lived with his mother, Monowara Begum, at her parental home in Baham Pashchimpara village in the same upazila. He was present in court during the verdict.

Monowara Begum’s younger brother, Yunus Miah, filed a murder case against Sagar at Mohanganj Police Station. After investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court. Based on Sagar’s confessional statement, testimonies from 10 witnesses, and other evidence, the allegations were proven beyond reasonable doubt, leading to his life imprisonment sentence. The case was resolved within approximately three years of the incident.
