Sadiq Kayem, Central Secretary for Literature and Publication of Islami Chhatra Shibir, addressed the crowd, saying, “We wanted to realize the aspirations of a discrimination-free Bangladesh as envisioned by the martyrs of the July Revolution. However, we have witnessed a so-called mainstream party engaging in open terrorism, extortion, mass rape, and stone-throwing killings reminiscent of the age of ignorance (Jahiliyyah).”
He further referenced past violence, stating, “On October 28, 2006, Hasina’s Awami League and their red terrorists killed our brothers in broad daylight. Now, a mainstream party is attempting to taste power by killing people with stones. As long as the July generation is alive, we will not let their dreams be fulfilled.”
Rifat Rashid, another leader, declared, “We will not allow anyone to rise as a new fascist force.” Central Office Secretary Sibgatullah Sibga added, “Yesterday, terrorists killed my brother in Mitford to instill fear in us. They have left no village, market, or shop untouched by their extortion. Just as the people of Bangladesh ousted fascist Hasina, they will similarly expel these extortionists.”
Helal Uddin, President of Dhaka South Metropolitan Branch, remarked, “The July Revolution buried Awami Jahiliyyah. But now, we see the emergence of a nationalist Jahiliyyah. The student masses of 2024 remain vigilant. If you fail to rein in these terrorists, the student community will take to the streets to resist you.”
The protest was attended by other leaders, including Amirul Islam, Central Student Rights Secretary, Md. Riazul Islam, President of Jagannath University Shibir, and Asif Abdullah, President of Dhaka East Metropolitan Branch.
