Sargis Alam Accuses Tarique Rahman of BNP’s Crimes: “Just as Hasina Bears Awami League’s Murders, You Bear BNP’s

Sargis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the northern region, has expressed deep outrage over the alleged murder of a local businessman in Dhaka’s Midford area by members of the BNP’s youth wing, Jubo Dal, over unpaid extortion money. In a scathing remark directed at BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, Alam stated, “Control the barbaric elements in your party.” In a Facebook post on Friday (July 11), Alam voiced his condemnation, writing, “Control the handful of demonic elements posing as leaders and workers in your party, Mr. Tarique Rahman. Just as the responsibility for Awami League’s murders falls on Sheikh Hasina, the responsibility for murders committed by BNP, Jubo Dal, and Chhatra Dal also falls on you.” The incident in question occurred on Thursday night when a businessman in the Midford area was allegedly stripped naked and stoned to death in the middle of the street for refusing to pay extortion money. Eyewitnesses reported that Jubo Dal members celebrated around the victim’s body. A video clip of the incident went viral, sparking widespread outrage across the country and triggering a storm of criticism on social media. Comparing the brutality to the “era of Jahiliyyah” (pre-Islamic ignorance), Alam wrote, “The killing of a businessman by stoning next to Midford Hospital and the wild celebration around his body is unimaginable. Such an incident has deeply shaken the people of Bangladesh.” Referencing the spirit of the July Revolution, he added, “This is not why the people of Bangladesh carried out the July Revolution. Those days are gone, sir. This generation may forgive, but it will not forget. Neither the murderers nor the barbarity will be spared.”
