On Wednesday (July 16), UNO Marzia Haque issued a show-cause notice to both individuals, demanding explanations for their actions. Mahia Haque has already returned 4,45,000 BDT of the embezzled amount, but the remaining funds are yet to be recovered.
According to the show-cause notice, Mahia Haque and Mozibur Rahman Molla were involved in check forgery and embezzlement, misappropriating funds through multiple fraudulent transactions between December 2024 and July 2025. They allegedly transferred money from their accounts to Mahia Haque’s account under the guise of "salary payments" to Upazila Council employees.
Mozibur Rahman Molla, the jeep driver, claimed that 368,900 BDT was deposited into his account in five installments. He stated that Mahia Haque demanded the money, and he complied. When questioned by UNO Marzia Haque on July 13, he admitted to handing over the money. Mahia Haque allegedly grabbed the UNO's leg and pleaded, "He made a mistake, please let him go."
Mahia Haque, in an interview with journalists, admitted to returning 4,45,000 BDT as per the UNO’s directive and deposited it into the Upazila Council’s "salary account." She expressed her inability to speak due to illness but confirmed her involvement, stating, "I made a mistake. I have no other option but to confess."
UNO Marzia Haque stated that the issue is under investigation. She assured that legal action will be taken against those found guilty, and the results will be communicated later.
Meanwhile, employees working at the Upazila Parishad are expressing fear and demanding a thorough investigation and strict punishment for the guilty parties.
