Madrasa Teacher Hacked to Death in Satkhira, Assailant Killed in Mob Lynching

Hafez Md. Sharifull Islam (40), a teacher at Shahapur Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage in Tala Upazila, was brutally hacked to death inside the madrasa premises. The assailant, Raju Gazi (35), was subsequently killed by a mob in retaliation. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 20, at around 3:00 PM. Hafez Md. Sharifull Islam was the son of the late Maulana Alimuddin from Shahapur village, while Raju Gazi was the son of Mostafa Gazi from the same village.

Following the incident, Tala Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mainuddin visited the site. Kheshra Union Parishad Chairman Sheikh Kamrul Islam Laltu and local UP member Samsul Huda Paltu confirmed the incident, stating that Hafez Sharifull Islam had gone to the madrasa after lunch around 3:00 PM. At that time, Raju Gazi, described as mentally unstable, attacked him from behind with a machete used for cutting trees, leading to Sharifull’s immediate death. When news of the killing spread, enraged villagers apprehended Raju and beat him, resulting in his death at the scene.

Locals reported that Raju was a drug addict and had lost his mental stability due to prolonged substance abuse. OC Md. Mainuddin told reporters, “I have visited the incident site. The bodies have been recovered and taken to the police station. They have been sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy.”
