In a weather alert issued on Thursday morning (July 24), the BMD stated that the low-pressure system could intensify further. Due to its influence, there is a significant variation in atmospheric pressure over the North Bay, which may result in gusty or squally winds affecting the coastal areas of Bangladesh and nearby maritime ports.
As a precaution, fishing boats and trawlers currently operating in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
According to the weather forecast, the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal across northern Bangladesh to Assam, with one branch stretching into the North Bay. The monsoon is currently moderately active over Bangladesh and moderately strong over the North Bay.
Meteorologist A.K.M. Nazmul Haque stated that in the coming days, scattered thunderstorms and rain are likely in many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with a few areas in Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal divisions also expected to experience rain. Some areas may witness moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, an unusual weather phenomenon was observed in Tetulia, Panchagarh, where dense fog enveloped the area from late Tuesday night until early Wednesday morning—an uncommon occurrence during the monsoon season. Vehicles moved with headlights on, and dew settled on crop leaves.
Jitendranath Roy, the acting officer of the Tetulia Weather Observation Center, said the fog was caused by an increase in dust particles and active monsoon winds. While not abnormal, such fog during the monsoon is considered rare.
