Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed the incident.
According to police, the accused, Billal, lived with his wife, Iti Akter, in a rented house owned by Ibrahim Miya in Batanpara. Billal had long suspected Iti of having an extramarital affair, which led to a heated argument between the couple around 10:30 PM. During the altercation, Billal allegedly locked the door and repeatedly struck Iti on the head with a rolling pin used for making flatbreads. Hearing Iti’s screams, neighbors rushed to the scene, but Billal initially refused to open the door.
When the door was finally opened, neighbors found Iti lying on the floor in a pool of blood, with severe head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene before she could be taken to a hospital. Local residents apprehended Billal and informed the police.
OC Mohammad Shahinur Alam stated, “The suspect, Billal, has been detained. The victim’s body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Preparations for filing a case are underway.”
The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and its tragic consequences.
