Hasaranga Ruled Out of T20I Series Against Bangladesh

Srilanka has suffered a major setback ahead of their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, with their star leg-spinner and all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out due to a hamstring injury. The injury occurred during the third ODI of the recently concluded series, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.

Hasaranga, aged 26, sustained the injury to his right leg while batting in the final ODI. His exceptional bowling performance in the first ODI had dismantled Bangladesh’s batting lineup, turning the game in Sri Lanka’s favor. He will now return to Colombo to begin rehabilitation at the Sri Lanka Cricket Board’s High Performance Center. The team management has decided not to name a replacement, expressing confidence in the current squad.

With regular T20I captain Hasaranga sidelined, Charith Asalanka will lead the side. Asalanka, who captained Sri Lanka to the ODI series win, will aim to replicate that success. The squad for this series differs significantly from the one that faced New Zealand in their last T20I series. The 16-member Sri Lankan team blends experience and youth, featuring veterans like Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Dasun Shanaka alongside emerging talents such as Matheesha Pathirana and Dunith Wellalage. The T20I series, starting on Thursday, July 10, is a crucial preparatory platform for both teams ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. **Sri Lanka T20I Squad:** Charith Asalanka (Captain), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, Chamika Karunaratne, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Binura Fernando, Eshan Malinga.
