Four Arrested in Mohammadpur, Including ‘Viral Alvi,’ Sent to Jail

Dhaka, July 6, 2025: A Dhaka court has ordered four individuals, including Mosharraf Hossain, alias Alvi (23), who gained notoriety on social media for brandishing weapons, to be sent to jail. The group was arrested in Mohammadpur while preparing for a robbery, with locally made weapons recovered from their possession.

On Saturday, July 5, the investigating officer presented the accused in court, requesting their detention. Following the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Israt Jenifer Zerin ordered their imprisonment. The other accused are Md. Hridoy (31), Md. Elias Haji (20), and Md. Akash Hawladar (16).

Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman from the prosecution department of Mohammadpur Police Station confirmed the details. He stated, “The police produced the accused in court today and sought their detention. The judge ordered their imprisonment. However, no lawyer represented them.” On the early morning of July 4, a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in Mohammadpur and arrested the four active members of a robbery gang. A locally made samurai sword was recovered from them. According to RAB, the group had gathered in Mohammadpur’s 40-foot area with the intent to commit a robbery. Sensing the presence of RAB personnel, they attempted to flee, but while four were apprehended, four to five others managed to escape.

Preliminary interrogations revealed that the group had been involved in organized robberies, snatchings, thefts, and extortion in Mohammadpur and other parts of the capital for an extended period. They allegedly intimidated pedestrians with weapons, stealing mobile phones, money, and other valuables.
