Dhaka Stock Exchange Transactions Cross 600 Crore Taka Again

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s primary stock market, has once again surpassed the 600 crore taka mark in trading volume. On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the total transaction volume at the DSE reached 602 crore taka, marking the highest trading volume in the Dhaka market in nearly five and a half months. The previous high was recorded on February 25, when transactions amounted to 607 crore taka.

Despite the increase in trading volume, the DSE’s main index, DSEX, saw a modest rise of only 5 points, closing at 4,982 points. Market analysts attribute the increased trading activity to growing investor interest in fundamentally strong companies, which has driven up share prices. However, the index’s growth was limited due to price corrections in some banking sector stocks.

According to a report by LankaBangla Securities, eight of the top ten companies contributing to the decline in the DSEX index were banks, including Islami Bank, City Bank, Pubali Bank, Social Islami Bank, Al-Arafah Bank, Jamuna Bank, Mercantile Bank, and Standard Bank. Conversely, four banks—United Commercial Bank, First Security Islami Bank, One Bank, and EXIM Bank—saw their share prices rise, contributing significantly to the index’s modest uptick.

Market observers note that price corrections in banking stocks are a natural market trend. Some investors are selling shares to lock in profits, but the trading volume has not decreased significantly. This suggests that these stocks may rebound after the correction phase.
