BNP’s Central Sports Secretary and Dhaka North City Convener Aminul Haque stated that the people of Bangladesh want to elect their preferred candidates through a free and fair election, which will establish a people’s government. He emphasized that the public is eagerly awaiting such an election.
Speaking as the chief guest at two separate membership form distribution and renewal programs organized by Badda and Rampura Thana BNP units in the capital on Wednesday (July 9), he made these remarks.
Aminul Haque alleged that for the past 15 years, the people of Bangladesh have been deprived of their voting rights. He urged the identification of those conspiring to delay the upcoming election, stating that they will be brought to justice after the election.
Criticizing the Proportional Representation (PR) system for elections, he said, “Those who lack the qualifications to become even a Union Parishad member are dreaming of becoming MPs through the PR system. They are filled with ambition, but it’s not that easy. The people of Bangladesh will never accept a system that disregards their opinions.”
He further stated, “BNP is a party of the common people, and it works for them. Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman and with the support of the masses, BNP will counter all conspiracies. Inshallah, the national election will be held by February. Everyone must remain united and vigilant.”
Addressing party activists, he urged them to maintain law and order in their respective areas and coordinate with law enforcement agencies. However, he cautioned against any injustice or oppression toward the public, as was done by collaborators of authoritarian regimes.
Aminul Haque noted that BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has directed the creation of a clean, transparent, and fair political environment to prevent the rise of any future authoritarian regime.
Regarding membership renewal, he said priority will be given to those who participated in movements and protests over the past 17 years and faced cases, attacks, and persecution. However, those who avoided party programs for various reasons will not have their memberships renewed.
Issuing a stern warning, he said, “If any collector enrolls Awami League collaborators or opportunists as members, they will be held accountable, and organizational action will be taken against them.”
The events were chaired by Badda Thana BNP Convener Abdul Kader Babu and Rampura Thana BNP Convener Helal Kabir Helu. Other speakers included BNP’s Central Small Credit Affairs Secretary M.A. Kaiyum, Dhaka North City BNP Member Secretary Mostafa Zaman, Joint Conveners S.M. Jahangir Hossain, Ferdousi Ahmed Misty, and A.B.M.A. Razzak (in charge of the office), among others.
