BNP Leader Expelled in Cumilla Over Alleged Attempt to Murder Farmers' Wing Leader

In Cumilla’s Daudkandi Upazila, allegations have surfaced that a BNP leader attempted to murder Ahmed Hossain Talukder, the convener of the Upazila Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal (Farmers' Wing), after failing to secure a desired position in the party’s Goualmari Union committee. In response, Mizanur Rahman Pramanik, the general secretary of Goualmari Union BNP, has been expelled from the party.

The expulsion was announced in a press release signed by Upazila BNP member secretary Jahangir Alam on Saturday night. The statement cited Mizanur’s involvement in activities contrary to party discipline and his failure to provide a satisfactory response to a show-cause notice. As a result, he has been removed from all party positions, including primary membership, with immediate effect. According to party sources, on the night of July 3, Ahmed Hossain Talukder was attacked while returning to his Dhaka residence from Goualmari. A group of assailants ambushed him at the Goualmari autorickshaw stand, attempting to kill him with sharp weapons. Evidence suggests Mizanur Rahman Pramanik instigated, supported, and directed the attack. Earlier that day, a five-member union committee was announced, with Mizanur appointed as general secretary. However, he had aspired to become president and was reportedly furious at not securing the position. Multiple BNP leaders from Daudkandi Upazila stated that Mizanur Rahman Pramanik and his supporters have long been accused of extortion, forcing locals to abandon their homes, and shutting down shops in the local market. When contacted, Upazila BNP member secretary Jahangir Alam confirmed that Mizanur’s name surfaced in connection with the attack on Ahmed Hossain Talukder. Despite being issued a show-cause notice, his response was unsatisfactory. Following an investigation that substantiated the allegations, Mizanur was expelled. Jahangir emphasized, “This expulsion proves that there is no place for extortionists or terrorists in BNP. The party has never sheltered wrongdoers or supported terrorist activities, nor will it do so in the future.”
