The Henley Passport Index compares the visa-free or visa-on-arrival access of 199 passports to 227 destinations worldwide. Countries are awarded one point for destinations where visa-free, visa-on-arrival (VOA), visitor permits, or electronic travel authorizations (ETA) are available. Destinations requiring prior e-visa approval or traditional visa issuance receive zero points.
The overall score for each passport is determined by the number of destinations a holder can access without obtaining a visa in advance.
Singapore topped the 2025 index as the world’s most powerful passport. Japan and South Korea ranked second, while Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain shared third place. Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden ranked fourth. New Zealand, Greece, and Switzerland stood at fifth.
According to the index, Bangladeshi passport holders now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to the following 39 countries:
Bahamas, Barbados, Bhutan, Bolivia, British Virgin Islands, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Comoros Islands, Cook Islands, Djibouti, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kenya, Kiribati, Madagascar, Maldives, Micronesia, Montserrat, Mozambique, Nepal, Jamaica, Niue, Rwanda, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, The Gambia, Timor-Leste, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
While some of these countries allow entry strictly without a visa, others offer visa-on-arrival or require travelers to apply for an e-visa in advance.
The rise in ranking reflects an improvement in Bangladesh’s global mobility, though it still lags behind many countries in terms of international travel freedom.
