Attack and Shooting at Pallabi Business Over Alleged Tk5 Crore Extortion Demand, One Injured

On Friday afternoon around 5 PM, a group of armed individuals attacked AK Builders, a real estate construction company, in the Albadirtek area of Pallabi, Dhaka.

Amid nationwide outrage over the brutal murder of a scrap dealer in Old Dhaka due to an extortion dispute, a similar incident occurred in Dhaka’s Pallabi area. On Friday, July 11, 2025, around 5 PM, a group of armed assailants attacked AK Builders, a real estate construction company in Albadirtek, Pallabi, allegedly over a Tk5 crore extortion demand. According to police, the attackers fired four shots, injuring SharifUL Islam, an employee of the company, who was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital.

Amimul Ehsan, son of AK Builders’ chairman Md. Kaiyum Ali Khan, told on Saturday that three weeks ago, an individual named Jamil demanded Tk5 crore from his father. When the demand was not met, the company faced attacks on two occasions, during which the attackers stole CCTV cameras and other items. On Friday, a group of 30 to 40 assailants stormed the office, fired shots, and caused further damage, injuring one employee. Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Islam told that no case has been filed yet regarding the shooting, and no arrests have been made. The incident is under serious investigation, with efforts ongoing to apprehend those involved. *Injured AK Builders employee during the attack. According to sources, AK Builders’ chairman, Kaiyum Ali Khan, filed a General Diary (GD) at Pallabi Police Station on Thursday, detailing the extortion demands and prior attacks. The GD stated that the first attack occurred on June 27, followed by another on July 4, during which unidentified individuals threatened the company with violence and extortion. Friday’s attack marked the third assault on the business. This incident follows the brutal murder of Lal Chand, alias Sohag (39), a scrap dealer in Old Dhaka, on Wednesday evening in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital. Lal Chand was beaten, attacked with bricks and stones, and stripped naked by a group of assailants, who also stomped on his body. His family claims the murder was due to his refusal to pay Tk2 lakh monthly extortion. Police and local sources confirm that extortion was the primary motive. Lal Chand was reportedly linked to Jubo Dal in the past, and four suspects named in his murder case, associated with Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swecchasebak Dal, have been expelled from these organizations.
