In Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur, a class eight student was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint and assaulted on Tuesday (July 8, 2025) afternoon in front of a school. The student was rescued by relatives about an hour later. Police have recovered a toy pistol from the accused’s house. A 22-second video of the incident has gone viral on Facebook.
The accused, Md. Kausar Ahmed (38), is a resident of Dhanua village in the upazila. According to the student’s relatives, five to six others were with him during the incident. The video footage shows the student, dressed in school uniform, being forcibly taken away. One individual is seen holding a pistol-like object to the student’s back. Local residents identified this person as Kausar Ahmed. The video also shows the accused pointing the pistol-like object at teachers and other students who approached, intimidating them.
The student’s uncle told Prothom Alo that there was a dispute between Kausar and another class eight student. The victim was a friend of that student. On Tuesday, Kausar and his associates came looking for the other student but, failing to find him, abducted and assaulted the victim. Upon receiving the news, relatives went to rescue the student but were threatened and chased away by the accused. The student was later rescued with the help of locals. He received primary medical treatment and was taken home.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik told Prothom Alo that a toy pistol was recovered from the accused’s house. Efforts are underway to bring the accused under the law.
