A youth named Gazi Mahmud (18) was beaten to death by his friend over a loan of just 400 taka in the Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh.
He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday (September 4) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka, police confirmed.
According to local sources and police, Gazi Mahmud, son of Chowdhury Mia of Shantoshpur Modhopara village in Naogaon Union, and Alim (19), son of Md. Billal Hossain from the same village, were close friends and both worked as cattle herders. A few months ago, Alim had borrowed 400 taka from Mahmud.
On Tuesday, while Mahmud was asking Alim to repay the debt near a local shop, an argument broke out which escalated into a physical altercation. Later, Alim returned with a stick and struck Mahmud on the back of his head, causing severe injuries.
Mahmud was initially taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital but later transferred to Dhaka as his condition worsened. He died two days later while receiving treatment.
“My son was brutally killed over just 400 taka,” said Chowdhury Mia, the victim’s father. “I demand the immediate arrest and capital punishment of those involved.”
Fulbaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Rokonuzzaman said, “The victim’s father has filed a case. We are actively working to arrest the accused.”
