Police Officer Withdrawn in Chittagong After Bribery Video Goes Vir

A police officer in Chittagong has been withdrawn from duty following allegations of bribery after a video went viral on social media. The officer, identified as Shahin Bhuiyan, was serving as a General Register Officer (GRO) in the Women and Children Section of the Chittagong Court under the Chittagong Metropolitan Police. On Friday, August 22, he was removed from his post and reassigned to the Police Lines.

Mofiz Uddin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, confirmed the development to Prothom Alo, stating that Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahin Bhuiyan was withdrawn from his duties due to allegations of accepting a bribe. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

In a 32-second viral video, SI Shahin Bhuiyan is seen seated in his office on the second floor of the court building. A lawyer is observed taking out three currency notes from a wallet and handing them to him. Shahin Bhuiyan counts the notes and keeps them. The video is believed to have been recorded before Eid-ul-Adha.
